KidzJam is a playgroup designed to introduce kids to new instruments, genres, and cultures. They make-and-take an instrument at every group and learn songs and dances taken from many cultures.

We previously explored:

  • Chinese New Year with guest instructor Minyi Shaw introduced songs and cultural traditions with an impromptu Mandarin reading/writing session!

  • Mi’kmaw (also Mi’kmaq or Micmac) Christmas music with guest instructor John Dennis,  Cultural Director for the Aroostook Band of Micmacs.

  • Traditional Indian Kathak dance and music.  Children were introduced to costumes, music, instruments and each made ankle bells to practice percussive dance steps.
